Number

Number is a form of noun which counts the noun.

example- pen, book, chair, water, air etc.

Kinds of Number - 2

1. Singular Number

 Singular number is that number which shows one noun.

 example- pen, water, book, air etc.

2. Plural Number

Plural number is that number which shows more than one noun.

example- pens, books, pen and book, water and air etc.

Rules to change Singular into Plural number

1. साधारण Singular countable Noun के अंत में s जोड़कर plural बनाया जाता है |

Ex- pen - pens, chair - chairs etc.

 2. अगर किसी singular countable noun के अंत में s, ss, sh, ch, x, or z हो तो उसमें es जोड़कर plural बनाया जाता है |

Ex- bus - buses, class - classes, brush - brushes, branch - branches, box - boxes, topaz - topazes etc.

3. अगर किसी singular countable Noun के अंत में y हो तथा y के पहले कोई vowel हो तो सबसे अंत में केवल s जोड़कर plural बनाया जाता है |

Ex- boy - boys, key - keys etc.

4. अगर किसी singular countable Noun के अंत में y हो तथा y के पहले कोई consonant हो तो y को i में बदलकर तथा अंत में es जोड़कर plural बनाया जाता है | 

Ex- baby - babies, lady - ladies, city - cities etc.

5. अगर किसी singular countable Noun के अंत में o हो तथा o के पहले कोई vowel हो तो सबसे अंत में केवल s जोड़कर plural बनाया जाता है |

Ex- radio - radios, video - videos, audio- audios etc.

6. अगर किसी singular countable Noun के अंत में o हो तथा o के पहले कोई consonant तो सबसे अंत में es जोड़कर plural बनाया जाता है |

Ex- mango - mangoes, potato - potatoes, tomato - tomatoes, etc.

Exception:  photo - photos, piano - pianos, canto - cantos

7. अगर किसी singular countable noun के अंत में f हो तो f को v में बदलकर तथा अंत में es जोड़कर plural बनाया जाता है | 

Ex- leaf - leaves, thief - thieves, calf - calves.

Exception- roof - roofs, proof - proofs, 

staff - staffs, chief - chiefs, brief - briefs etc.

8. अगर किसी singular countable noun के अंत में ch हो लेकिन उसका उच्चारण क(k) तरह हो तो उसमें केवल s जोड़कर plural बनाया जाता है |

Ex- monarch - monarchs, stomach - stomachs etc.

9. अगर किसी singular countable noun के अंत में  fe हो तो f को v में बदलकर तथा e को जैसा का तैसा छोड़कर एवं अंत में s लगाकर plural बनाया जाता है |

Ex- knife - knives

10. अगर किसी singular countable noun के अंत में ful शब्द जुड़ा हो, तो उस noun का plural बनाने के लिए ful के अंत में s जोड़ा जाता है |

Ex- handful - handfuls 

      houseful - housefuls

      mouthful - mouthfuls

      glassful  - glassfuls

      spoonful - spoonfuls   etc.

11. कुछ ऐसे countable noun है, जिनके बीच का vowel बदलकर plural बनाया जाता है | 

Ex- man - men, woman- women, tooth - teeth, goose - geese etc.

12. कुछ ऐसे countable noun है, जिनके अंत में en या ren जोड़कर plural बनाया जाता है |

Ex- ox - oxen, child - children etc.

13. किसी भी alphabet या number के अंत में small - s  जोड़कर plural बनाया जाता है | 

Ex- A - As, B - Bs, 5 - 5s, 3 - 3s etc.

14. Compound noun वाले singular countable noun के मूल noun का plural बनाकर singular से plural बनाया जाता है |

Ex- father in law - father's in law

      grand father  - grand father's 

      step brother - step brother's   etc.

15. अंग्रेजी में abbreviation (संक्षिप्त शब्द)  के अंतिम letter में small- s जोड़कर उसका plural बनाया जाता है |

Ex- B.D.O - B.D.Os, S.D.O - S.D.Os, D.M - D.Ms.

Exception- M.L.A - MsL.A.

                   M.P - MsP

16. कुछ ऐसे countable noun है जिनका प्रयोग singular तथा plural दोनों में होता है |

Ex- fish,  sheep, deer etc.

17. कुछ ऐसे countable  noun है जो हमेशा plural होते हैं तथा इसका singular होता |

Ex- people,  police,  cattle,  public,  gentry,  vermin etc.

18. कुछ ऐसे countable  noun है जो हमेशा singular होते हैं तथा इनका plural नहीं होता |

Ex- work, advice, information, furniture, traffic, news, physics, civics, billiards etc. 

19. कुछ ऐसे countable  noun जो लैटिन तथा ग्रीक word  से बने होते हैं, तथा इसका plural भी उसी भाषा के अनुरूप होता है |

Ex- datum - data, medium - media, spectrum - spectra, radius - radic etc.
